Rotary District 6220 Newsletter January 2019

Greetings fellow Rotarians and a Happy New Year!

A big “Thank-You”  to the clubs who have been recognized by Rotary International for their support of the Rotary Foundation in 2017-18. Special thanks and recognition to the Rotary Club of Green Bay, The Rotary Club of Northern Door ( Bailey’s Harbor), the Rotary Club of Waupaca and the Rotary Club of Eagle River for leading the district in giving to TRF.

Congratulations to the Rotary Clubs of Appleton, Appleton West, Clintonville, Green Bay, Marquette Breakfast, Marquette West, Merrill, Waupaca and Wausau who have been recognized by RI with Certificate of Appreciation for their support of the End Polio Campaign. Their certificates will be delivered soon.

Thank you to everyone for sending warm holiday greetings and invitations to attend their seasonal events. I wish I could have attended each one but it was not possible. I was honored to visit the Rotary Club of Wakefield-Bessemer and share in the presentation  2 Paul Harris awards.  And I enjoyed the evening in Green Bay with the Rotary Club of Green Bay West as they celebrated the season at the Northland Hotel. This community landmark is undergoing a rebirth and it was a pleasure to see the progress and learn about its plans for the future

A new year lies ahead and the Rotary year is almost half over! Time flies when we’re busy and doing all the great things that make our district a great place to be a Rotarian. Please send us your stories of events and highlights!

District Governors Elect from all over the world will gather in January in  San Diego CA for a week of learning and friendship. Our DGE Steve Handrick is ready and eager to attend.  I’m sure Steve will return filled with great ideas for inspiring and increasing membership, fellowship and service for all our clubs and members. Thank you Steve for stepping into this leadership role. Enjoy the California sunshine!

Your club probably has the leadership roles for the coming Rotary year well in place and reported to the DACdb database.  If not, please complete this task as soon as possible so those volunteers can be kept up to date with information. from RI. If you have questions or challenges let us know.

YOUTH PROGRAMS

The Inbound students continue to study hard, share their homeland culture and discover new things here in our part of the world. They will be hosted by the Rotary Clubs in Wausau for the Love is International Conference this month. They will visit a school, share their experiences as and exchange student, be hosted by families in Wausau and have a great weekend!  The Outbound Students are busy preparing for their year in another country. They will probably learn where they will go in a few weeks.

Interact and Rotaract members are busy with many activities as well.  These  programs can be a good way to connect with and  inspire young people in our communities. Let’s support them whenever we can!

VOCATIONAL SERVICE  is the Rotary theme for the month of January.

Does the 4 Way Test, the Rotary Code of Ethics and “Service Above Self” have a presence in your business?  Do these practices help your business stand out in a positive way in your community? This might be a time to share what is happening in your workplace at a club meeting. Sometimes it is good to have an insight into what is happening in our own community.

DATES to REMEMBER:  Dual-Con 2019, May 17-18, 2019.

The Dual-Con 2019 website will probably be live by the time you read this.   You will find  information about the conference, speakers and a link to register. We have plans to have  excellent speakers, breakout sessions of timely importance, time for fellowship and more. The Annual Meeting of the District will take place on Saturday morning. This is a good time to learn what is happening in our district and what lies ahead in the year to come. Please register as soon as you can- we look forward to seeing you!

INTERNATIONAL CONVENTION:  June 1-5, 2019, Hamburg Germany.  Right now we have less than 1 %   (15) of our members registered. What a presence we could make if that could grow to 10%!  WOW!! Can you help make it happen? It’s easy to register by going to  There is a link to RI Convention on the Members column on the home page.

I hope you continue to share the Rotary message in your community, invite newcomers to your meetings, look for new avenues of service, energize each other as we make a positive difference.

I am very honored to be your District Governor and am grateful for each of you and all your accomplishments.
