The "Blankets for Africa Project" was implemented as a World Community Service project by the Rotary Club of Appleton (Downtown) as an offshoot of the District-wide Southern Africa Medical Project. Beginning in 1995, the Downtown and other Appleton Rotary clubs supplemented the medical supplies being packed for shipment to Africa with blankets donated or purchased. In 1997 this project was expanded to a District-wide supplementary project to SAMP and also included usable computer equipment and peripherals. In the fall of 1997 and spring of 1998 over 8000 blankets were donated, or purchased from monetary donations, for shipment to Africa.
