Rotary Ambassadorial Scholarship Update from John WetinG
Help Wanted… No, Help NEEDED!
As you likely know, the way Rotary Districts’ and The Rotary Foundation have interacted and functioned in the past is changing under the Future Vision program. Future Vision is scheduled to begin in July 2013. You may have read about Future Vision in The Rotarian or from special emails from Rotary International.
Future Vision is going to provide districts with much more flexibility in how we spend our District Designated Funds (DDF) but it will also bring about significant changes in how we function as a district.
In the Rotary Ambassadorial Scholarship program we will be responsible for defining the type or types of district scholarships we choose to offer, at what level we will fund them, what the selection criteria will be, what will be reimbursable costs, accounting of scholar funds, periodic communications with the scholar and reporting, locating and coordination with the overseas Sponsor Club/District and more. Much of the post selection work that was previously performed by Foundation staff will now fall on the District Rotary Ambassadorial Scholarship sub-committee.
In March 2012 we will be selecting our 2013 Rotary Ambassadorial Scholar, so even though 2013 is a year way, the Rotary Ambassadorial Scholarship sub-committee needs to be functioning under the 2013 Future Vision model starting now.
Committee meetings will likely be held by teleconference with most communications by email or LinkedIn. The opportunity to serve on this committee is nearly unlimited. If you have an interest in ambassadorial scholarship opportunities, I am sure we can find a need you can fill on the committee that will be rewarding for you and a benefit to the District.
If you would like to read what this scholarship has meant to some of our past scholars, you can read their testimonials here. So we need to build a committee of 3-5 people who are interested in helping talented young people in our district have this amazing scholarship opportunity. If you are interested in working with the Rotary Ambassadorial Scholarship sub-committee please contact John Weting at 906-458-9940 or by email at jweting@me.com.The Rotary Ambassadorial Scholarship program can be explored here.
