Ambassadorial Scholarships

The Foundation's oldest and best-known service activity is its Rotary Ambassadorial Scholarships program. The program is one of the largest privately funded international scholarship programs, sending approximately 1,200 participants to study internationally each year. The Rotary Grants for University Teachers program is now considered part of the Educational Programs area at The Rotary Foundation and the Scholarships Subcommittee chairperson is asked to assume the responsibility for this program.

The purposes of the Ambassadorial Scholarships program are to: send ambassadors of goodwill to improve international understanding; instill a high degree of international understanding in all scholars within the context of the high ideals which Rotary embodies; impart needed skills to scholars, especially those from developing countries; and educate scholars from developed countries in the unique problems and challenges faced by developing countries.

The next selection cycle for the Rotary Ambassadorial Scholarships will be for the 2011-2012 academic year.  Individual Rotary Clubs are responsible for establishing their own club application deadlines.

All Rotary Ambassadorial Scholarship applications must be forwarded by the sponsor Rotary Club and received at the District no later than Friday, March 26,  2010.  Candidate interviews will be held in Menominee, MI on Saturday April  17, 2010.

All district-endorsed applications will be forwarded to the RI Foundation, by District 6220, in advance of the 01 October deadline, 10 months prior to the award year. All applicants approved by the Trustees will receive confirmation of their study institution assignments in December for their study beginning in the next Rotary year.

Potential applicants are encouraged to visit the Rotary Ambassadorial Scholarship website for eligibility criteria and additional information.

Potential applicants should contact their local Rotary Club for additional information.  All applications must be sent through the sponsor Rotary Club.
