Group Study Exchange Sample Schedule

The following schedule was developed for the District 2590 team from Japan in 1996-97. It offers examples of activities planned for a visiting team.

Saturday, May 10 - Travel Day (District GSE Committee) - Paper Valley Hotel

  • Arrive in Appleton at 3:55pm Northwest Airlines. (Greeting party will include members of District GSE Committee and District 6220 GSE Team.)
  • (Transfer to Paper Valley Hotel.)

Sunday, May 11 - Free Day - Appleton (District GSE Committee) - Paper Valley Hotel

  • Free Day, except for a brief orientation meeting in the afternoon.

Monday, May 12 - Vocational Day - Appleton (Appleton Rotary Club) - Appleton Host Families

  • Evening supper and social with host families and Appleton Rotarians.

Tuesday, May 13 - Community Day - Appleton (Appleton Rotary Club) - Appleton Host Families

  • Breakfast meeting with community leaders, including United Way, Chamber of Commerce, Arts Alliance and Community Foundation representatives.
  • Hearthstone Historic Home, Children's Museum (Japanese children exhibition), and meeting with the Mayor of Appleton.
  • Appleton Rotary Club (noon). Team presentation and presentation by member of 6220 Team, Diane Beyer.
  • Experimental Aircraft Association Museum.
  • Evening entertainment with host families.

Wednesday, May 14 - Community and Vocational Day - Kaukauna (Kaukauna RC) - Appleton Host Families

  • Dairy farming, milk processing, and cheese manufacturing tours.
  • Kaukauna Rotary Club (noon). Team presentation.
  • Paper manufacturing tour.
  • Evening dinner with Rotarians to discuss vocational interests.
  • (Return to Appleton host families)

Thursday, May 15 - Community and Cultural Day - New London (New London RC) - Waupaca Host Families

  • Mosquito Hill Nature Center.
  • Rawhide Boys Ranch (noon).
  • Cultural activities with New London Rotarians or free time, if desired.
  • Evening supper and social hosted by New London Rotarians
  • (Transfer to Waupaca host families)

Friday, May 16 - Community Day - Waupaca (Waupaca Rotary Club) - Waupaca Host Families

  • Waupaca Foundry
  • Other community venues of interest.
  • Evening supper and social hosted by Waupaca Rotarians.

  • Iron ore mine and ore dock on Lake Superior
  • District Conference reception and dinner, featuring 6220 RYE students

Saturday, May 31 - District Conference and Cultural Day (District GSE Committee and Marquette Rotary Clubs) - Marquette Holiday Inn

  • GSE presentation with 6220 GSE Team (9:30 - 10:30 am)
  • International Village. Informal discussions with Rotarians attending the District Conference.
  • Conference-sponsored recreational and cultural activities or free time, if desired.
  • Governor's Ball or free time, if desired
