University Teacher Grants
A new program in our district . . . sponsored by the Rotary Foundation!
University Teachers in Developing Countries is an opportunity
for college and university faculty members to spend from 3 to 10
months teaching in a developing part of the world. Rotarians and
non-Rotarian faculty members are eligible to apply. Retired professors
also may apply. Stipends range from $12,500 for 3-5 months to $22,500
for 6-10 months.
Here's how it works. Applicants make arrangements with their own
institution for a leave or sabbatical and with a hosting institution
in a developing region of the world. Then, they apply for the Rotary
UTDC grant. The application deadline for academic year 2005-5006
awards is September 1, 2004.
Applicants must be proficient in the language of the host country
and have a teaching specialty useful to the host institution and
country. Those chosen will have at least three years of full-time
college or university level teaching experience and will have demonstrated
exceptional teaching abilities.
The University Teachers in Developing Country program is funded
from District Designated Funds. Forty percent of every dollar donated
to the Rotary Foundation by District 6220 Rotarians goes into this
fund for programs like this one at the district level. Ambassadorial
Scholarships for college students and Matching Grants for club-initiated
humanitarian projects also are supported by this fund.
Clubs and interested college and university teachers are encouraged
