The following schedule was developed for the District 2590 team from Japan in 1996-97. It offers examples of activities planned for a visiting team.

Saturday, May 10 - Travel Day (District GSE Committee) - Paper Valley Hotel

  • Arrive in Appleton at 3:55pm Northwest Airlines. (Greeting party will include members of District GSE Committee and District 6220 GSE Team.)
  • (Transfer to Paper Valley Hotel.)

Sunday, May 11 - Free Day - Appleton (District GSE Committee) - Paper Valley Hotel

  • Free Day, except for a brief orientation meeting in the afternoon.

Monday, May 12 - Vocational Day - Appleton (Appleton Rotary Club) - Appleton Host Families

  • Evening supper and social with host families and Appleton Rotarians.

Tuesday, May 13 - Community Day - Appleton (Appleton Rotary Club) - Appleton Host Families

  • Breakfast meeting with community leaders, including United Way, Chamber of Commerce, Arts Alliance and Community Foundation representatives.
  • Hearthstone Historic Home, Children's Museum (Japanese children exhibition), and meeting with the Mayor of Appleton.
  • Appleton Rotary Club (noon). Team presentation and presentation by member of 6220 Team, Diane Beyer.
  • Experimental Aircraft Association Museum.
  • Evening entertainment with host families.

Wednesday, May 14 - Community and Vocational Day - Kaukauna (Kaukauna RC) - Appleton Host Families

  • Dairy farming, milk processing, and cheese manufacturing tours.
  • Kaukauna Rotary Club (noon). Team presentation.
  • Paper manufacturing tour.
  • Evening dinner with Rotarians to discuss vocational interests.
  • (Return to Appleton host families)

Thursday, May 15 - Community and Cultural Day - New London (New London RC) - Waupaca Host Families

  • Mosquito Hill Nature Center.
  • Rawhide Boys Ranch (noon).
  • Cultural activities with New London Rotarians or free time, if desired.
  • Evening supper and social hosted by New London Rotarians
  • (Transfer to Waupaca host families)

Friday, May 16 - Community Day - Waupaca (Waupaca Rotary Club) - Waupaca Host Families

  • Waupaca Foundry
  • Other community venues of interest.
  • Evening supper and social hosted by Waupaca Rotarians.

Saturday, May 17 - Cultural Day - Waupaca (Waupaca Rotary Club) - Waupaca Host Families

  • Chain of Lakes boat tour
  • Fox River shopping mall and movie theatre

Sunday, May 18 - Free Day - Waupaca (Waupaca Rotary Club) - Waupaca Host Families

Monday, May 19 - Community and Cultural Day - Wausau (Wausau Rotary Club) - Wausau Host Families

  • (Transfer to Wausau)
  • Wausau Rotary Club (noon). Team presentation.
  • Ostrich husbandry and ginseng farming

Sunday, May 25 - Free Day - Hancock, Houghton, and Calumet (HHC Rotary Clubs) - HHC Host Families

Monday, May 26 (Memorial Day) - Community and Cultural Day - Hancock (Hancock RC) - HHC Host Families

  • Traditional Memorial Day events
  • Historic Hancock area tour
  • Quincy Mine Hoist, A.E. Seaman Mineralogical Museum, Michigan Technological University tours.
  • Evening supper and social host by HHC Rotarians.

Tuesday, May 27 - Vocational Day - Houghton (Houghton Rotary Club) - HHC Host Families

Wednesday, May 28 - Community Day - Calumet (Calumet/Laurium Rotary Club) - HHC Host Families

  • Calumet National Park
  • Calumet, Houghton and Hancock Rotary Clubs joint meeting (evening). Team presentation.

Thursday, May 29 - Travel and Vocational Day (HHC and Marquette Rotary Clubs) - Marquette Host Families

  • (Transfer to Marquette)
  • Vocational activities (afternoon)

Friday, May 30 - Community Day and District Conference (Marquette Rotary Clubs and District GSE Committee) - Marquette Host Families

  • Iron ore mine and ore dock on Lake Superior
  • District Conference reception and dinner, featuring 6220 RYE students

Saturday, May 31 - District Conference and Cultural Day (District GSE Committee and Marquette Rotary Clubs) - Marquette Holiday Inn

  • GSE presentation with 6220 GSE Team (9:30 - 10:30 am)
  • Inteernational Village. Informal discussions with Rotarians attending the District Conference.
  • Conference-sponsored recreational and cultural activities or free time, if desired.
  • Governor's Ball or free time, if desired

Sunday, June 1 - Free Day - Marquette (District GSE Committee) - Marquette Holiday Inn

Monday, June 2 - Travel and Cultural Day - Munising (Munising Rotary Club) - Munising Host Families

  • (Transfer to Munising).
  • Lake Superior boat excursion

Tuesday, June 3 - Community Day - Munising (Munising Rotary Club) - Munising Host Families

  • Paper manufacturing tour (Kimberly-Clark)
  • Munising Rotary Club (noon). Team presentation.
  • Waterfall and logging tour in Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore
  • Evening supper and social hosted by Munising Rotarians.

Saturday, June 7 - Travel and Community Day - Green Bay (Green Bay West RC) - Green Bay Host Families

  • Activities planned by host families and team members, including vocational study, shopping, or preparation for return to Japan.

Sunday, June 8 - Cultural Day - Green Bay (Green Bay West RC) - Green Bay Host Families

  • Green Bay tour, including Green Bay Packer Hall of Fame and Lambeau Field
  • Evening supper and social with host families and Green Bay Rotarians

Monday, June 9 - Travel Day and Free Day (District GSE Committee) - Paper Valley Hotel

  • Green Bay West Rotary Club (7 am). Team Presentation
  • (Transfer to Appleton)

Tuesday, June 10 - Travel Day (District GSE Committee)

  • Transfer to Outagamie County Airport for 12:45 pm departure. Northwest Airlines
