Ambassadorial Scholarships Program
The Foundation's oldest and best-known service activity is its
Rotary Ambassadorial Scholarships program. The program is one of
the largest privately funded international scholarship programs,
sending approximately 1,200 participants to study internationally
each year. The Rotary Grants for University Teachers program is
now considered part of the Educational Programs area at The Rotary
Foundation and the Scholarships Subcommittee chairperson is asked
to assume the responsibility for this program.
The purposes of the Ambassadorial Scholarships program are to:
- send ambassadors of goodwill to improve international understanding;
- instill a high degree of international understanding in all
scholars within the context of the high ideals which Rotary embodies;
- impart needed skills to scholars, especially those from developing
countries; and
- educate scholars from developed countries in the unique problems
and challenges faced by developing countries.
