Etta Projects. Out of Hunger. On to Hope.International Service Project  Etta Projects is dedicated to the memory of Etta Turner, who, at the time of her death at sixteen, left a legacy of inspiration and caring.  Etta, a Rotary exchange student in Montero, Bolivia, died November 25, 2002 when the bus in which she was traveling careened off a treacherous mountain road in the mountains in Bolivia. Twenty-one people were on the bus and seven died.  Etta’s great adventure here on earth was over, but her legacy lives on.

Etta Turner was a remarkable young woman who cared deeply about the rights of women and the plight of impoverished families throughout the world, and especially in Bolivia.  In January 2003, Etta’s host family in Bolivia, Fatima and Jaime Paz, advised us that the Montero Rotary and the Salesian priests were entering into a joint project to acquire property and develop a center for impoverished children and women to be named in honor of Eta Turner.

The sorrow of Etta’s death, the joy of feeding many children and the promise of improving the lives of families coalesced to create Comedor de Ninos Etta Turner (Etta I)  which opened in June 2003 in the La Floresta neighborhood of Montero, Santa Cruz, Bolivia.  This was followed by the opening of Etta II in the more rural neighborhood of Pampa de la Madre in July 2005.
